Why You Feel Tired but Wired in Summer.

A Rewilded Rhythms™ Perspective on Long Days, Busy Minds, and Restless Nights

Summer arrives with more light.

More daylight.
More activity.
More plans.
More time outside.

And while that can feel energizing at first, many people eventually notice something unexpected happening.

They're tired.

But they can't seem to slow down.

They fall into bed exhausted, only to find their minds still moving.

They stay up later than they intended.
Wake during the night.
Or move through their days feeling both energized and depleted at the same time.

If that sounds familiar, understand that your body is responding to the season.

Why Summer Feels Different

In Ayurveda, early summer marks a shift from the quick, mobile energy of spring that begins giving way to the heat and intensity of summer.

The days stretch longer.

Our schedules often become fuller.

We spend more time socializing, traveling, gardening, working outside, and trying to fit as much as possible into the extra daylight.

Without realizing it, we start taking our cues from the season around us.

More light often becomes more activity.

And more activity creates more stimulation.

The result?

Your body feels tired, but your system never fully receives the signal to slow down.

The Two Patterns That Often Appear

Within the Rewilded Rhythms™, two patterns tend to become more noticeable during early summer.

🌬️ Wandering Wind

This pattern appears when there is too much movement, stimulation, or input.

You may notice:

• Racing thoughts at bedtime. Particularly mapping out all the tasks yet to do.
• Difficulty settling down, when a month ago it was easy to sit down.
• Feeling scattered or overstimulated (or both at the same time).
• Light or interrupted sleep.
• A sense that your mind is always one step ahead.

Your body may be tired, but your mind and your thoughts keep moving.

πŸ”₯ Flickering Flame

This pattern appears when intensity starts building faster than it can be released.

You may notice:

• Staying productive long past the point of fatigue. The one more thing wheel.
• Feeling "on" all day (that is often fueled by caffeine and little to no food).
• Irritability or impatience with everyone and everything.
• Difficulty relaxing because you could take care of a few more things.
• Waking in the early morning hours.

Instead of slowing down, your system keeps pushing.

For many people, summer brings:

Movement.
Stimulation.
Intensity.

The trifecta creates the familiar feeling of being tired but wired.

What Makes It Worse

Most people respond to fatigue by trying to create more energy.

Another cup of coffee.
A later bedtime.
Pushing through one more task.
Staying outside just a little longer.

But when stimulation is already high, adding more often makes the problem worse. This is more fuel to the fire.

The goal isn't to create more energy.

The goal is to protect the energy you already have.

How to Support Your Rhythm

You don't need a complicated routine, or to research the next best program.

You need intentional pauses.

Try This:

Create small moments of quiet during the day.
Even five minutes without input can help your system settle.

Step away before you're exhausted. When you notice dropping things, or making mistakes, it's time.
Don't wait until you crash to rest.

Protect your evenings.
Summer invites us to stay up later because we finally have light again, but your nervous system still needs a transition into sleep.

Choose cooling, nourishing foods.
Fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, sipping on coconut water, and simple meals can help balance the intensity of the season.

As daylight lingers, it's easy to forget that your body still relies on darkness as a cue for rest. Use blackout curtains if you need to.

The more stimulation summer brings, the more intentionally we have to create space for recovery.

A Different Way to Think About Summer Energy

Summer isn't carte blanch to do more.

It's an opportunity for you to work with the energy that's already available.

The people who move through summer feeling their best aren't necessarily doing less.

They're paying attention to when enough is enough.

They're recognizing and creating moments to settle before they become overwhelmed.

And they're supporting their rhythm before exhaustion turns into burnout.

Understanding your natural pattern is often the fastest way to understand why your sleep feels different from season to season.

Longer days can be beautiful.

But they still require balance.

Because even in a season full of light, your body needs opportunities to slow down, settle, and rest.
